Biography

Uzochukwu Mbamalu is the CEO and Co-founder of Manamuz Electric. He is a sustainable systems engineering specialist who graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Electronic Engineering from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He spent the first 8 years of his professional career (2012-2020) developing sustainable solar energy solutions for different sectors of the Nigerian Economy. 

 

 In 2020, he started working on designing sustainable food systems that leverage the Energy- Agriculture Nexus.  Hence, Uzochukwu and his team began building the Coldbox Store (www.coldboxstore.com), a network of container-sized cold storage systems which are completely powered by Offgrid solar and Mini-grids.  These cooling solutions are designed to prevent food waste, boost agricultural productivity, decarbonize Agricultural supply chains and improve energy economics through the productive use of clean energy.  Each Coldbox Store is designed using innovative energy efficiency approaches and made affordable through a third-party cold chain logistics model.  The work of Uzochukwu and his team on Coldbox Store has been supported by: Sustainable Energy For All, All On, USADF, Oxfam Novib, the German Energy Agency, Elsevier, International Solar Energy Society, Microgrid Academy, Rocky Mountain Institute and Nigeria’s Rural Electrification Agency.
